Rialto Theatre New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2010

New Year’s Eve events tend to be pricey, so we’re bringing you the least expensive ones we can find. “Cheap” can be a relative term, right?

Here’s an event at the Rialto Theatre for 40.00 (35.00 in advance) – 15.00 if you’re a current or past theatre student or you are a member of QDF, UDA, ACTRA, or CAEA, so this could be worth your while. There will also be a 10.00 raffle:

Members of Montreal theatre companies may enter the raffle for a chance to win two nights at the Rialto free of charge (est. value over $2000)! Some restrictions do apply; more information is available by contacting the Rialto Theatre.

Here are the evening details from their press release:

– The Rialto Theatre would like to invite everyone to come and celebrate New Year’s Eve at the legendary Rialto Theatre and toast the 86th anniversary of its first opening on December 27th, 1924! The party will feature the Ballroom Blitz Orchestra as well as Special Invited Guests… Dance Animal! A first of its kind raffle will also take place with the winner securing the Rialto Theatre as a performance space for two back-to-back nights at absolutely no cost! In addition, all Quebec Drama Federation, ACTRA, Union des Artistes and Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (CAEA) members as well as all theatre students (past and present) with ID pay a reduced price of admittance. Champagne will be served to all in attendance at the stroke of midnight with music playing all night long!

For the past 86 years, the Rialto Theatre has served as a prestigious cultural center for Montreal and the Mile End. Ezio Carosielli, the new owner of the Rialto, has stated “The Rialto Theatre is one of the most iconic buildings of Montreal. Our purchase of this heritage property in March 2010 was made with the full knowledge that we are acting as custodians of The Rialto Theatre for the community at large.”

DANCE ANIMAL is the Montreal Fringe and the Centaur Theatre’s Wildside Festival box-office record breakers and winners of the 2009 Just For Laughs “Best of Montreal” comedy prize. DANCE ANIMAL also won the Cirque du Soleil “Best Original Creation” Award in 2010

“If the youthful energy that goes into DANCE ANIMAL could be harnessed, it could light up the city.” – Pat Donnelly, Montreal Gazette.

“DANCE ANIMAL is hands-down the best show ever seen at the Montreal Fringe Festival.” – Richard Burnett, Hour.
