Pointe Pointe-à-Callière Port Symphony, March 3 & 10, 2013

Have you ever heard boats and ships taking part in a symphony? If not, you’re in for a treat if you visit the Old Port of Montreal to listen to trains, tugboats, boats moored in the Old Port for the winter, and other urban instruments, unite their musical sounds to create an original work of the most unusual kind.

This year, inspired by the temporary exhibition Samurai – The Prestigious Collection of Richard Béliveau, composer Nakamura will present a Symphony inspired by his native land, Japan. As well as the boats and trains, Nakamura’s symphony will also incorporate human voices, flute, and various percussion instruments including the taiko, a powerful and evocative Japanese drum.

  • Sunday March 3 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Sunday March 10 at 1:30 p.m.
